United Nations– India delivered a strong rebuke to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of hypocrisy and attempting to deflect from its own human rights abuses and state-sponsored terrorism.
During an open debate on Children and Armed Conflict (CAC), India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, firmly rejected what he described as Pakistan’s “nefarious agenda” and misuse of the international forum.
“Pakistan continues to cast unwarranted aspersions on UN processes and smear India during multilateral discussions to further its malicious objectives,” Harish said. “We categorically reject these baseless attempts, which seek to distract from the atrocities committed against children within Pakistan’s borders, as documented in the UN Secretary-General’s own report, and from Pakistan’s rampant cross-border terrorism.”
Ambassador Harish labeled Pakistan “one of the most serious violators” of the CAC agenda, citing not only internal abuses but also civilian harm resulting from Pakistani military operations near the Afghanistan border.
He referenced the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 Indian tourists and was carried out by Pakistani or Pakistan-trained terrorists. “The world has not forgotten these brutal attacks,” Harish said, recalling the Security Council’s April 25 statement demanding accountability for those responsible.
Reinforcing India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, Harish also cited retaliatory strikes conducted under Operation Sindoor on May 7. “India carried out non-escalatory, proportionate, and targeted attacks on nine terrorist infrastructure sites,” he stated. “The fact that those killed in the operation were given state funerals in Pakistan underscores the country’s ongoing support for terrorism.”
Harish also pointed to the Secretary-General’s recent CAC report, which documented serious violations in Pakistan, including attacks on girls’ schools, health workers, and children in border regions.
“The Secretary-General expressed deep concern over rising violations, including bombings of schools—particularly girls’ schools—targeted assaults on health workers, and the killing and maiming of Afghan children attributed to Pakistani cross-border shelling,” he noted.
Harish further condemned Pakistani shelling of Indian villages in May 2025, which resulted in civilian casualties. “For Pakistan to lecture the Council while engaging in such conduct is nothing short of gross hypocrisy,” he said.
He concluded with a reaffirmation of India’s sovereignty, stating: “The entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India—regardless of Pakistan’s incessant lies and distortions.” (Source: IANS)
