Patna– A shocking incident in Bihar’s Gaya district has reignited concerns over the state’s crumbling law and order, drawing fierce criticism from Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, who compared the situation in Bihar to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.

The outrage stems from the brutal assault of a rural doctor, Dr. Jitendra Yadav, who was tied to a tree and beaten by locals while responding to a medical emergency in a village under Gurpa police station, an area known for Maoist activity.

According to police, Dr. Yadav had gone to the home of a woman whose daughter was the victim of a 2021 gang-rape. The doctor was there to treat the woman, who had taken ill, when he was dragged outside by a group of locals, tied to a tree, and savagely attacked.

The situation could have been far worse if not for the quick-thinking of the victim’s minor niece, who ran from the scene and flagged down a Dial 112 emergency vehicle. Police arrived in time to rescue the severely injured doctor, who was first taken to Fatehpur CHC and later transferred to Magadh Medical College for further treatment due to the extent of his injuries.

Tejashwi Yadav posted a video of the assault on social media and condemned the Nitish Kumar-led government in harsh terms. “The law-and-order situation in Bihar is worse than under the Taliban,” he declared. “A doctor who went to save a patient was tied to a tree and brutally beaten by criminals. What could be more shameful?”

Yadav blamed the state’s worsening conditions on two decades of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule, calling it corrupt and incompetent. “The Chief Minister is in a coma, the administration is rudderless, and officers are busy looting the treasury,” he said.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed criticism of the government’s failure to maintain public safety.

Police have registered a case and are actively conducting raids to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack. Authorities also commended the bravery of the young girl whose actions likely saved the doctor’s life.

The assault comes amid rising concerns about mob justice and a breakdown in trust in the state’s legal system, prompting calls for swift accountability and systemic reform. (Source: IANS)
