New Delhi– U.S. Vice President JD Vance, currently on an official visit to India, spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to strongly condemn the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and reaffirm America’s commitment to supporting India in the global fight against terrorism.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Vice President Vance, who was visiting Agra on Wednesday, expressed his deepest condolences during the call and reiterated that the United States stands firmly with the people of India during this difficult time.
“He conveyed his deepest condolences on the loss of lives and reiterated that the United States is ready to provide all assistance in the joint fight against terrorism,” the MEA stated. Earlier in the week, Vance and his family met with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi for bilateral discussions ahead of their scheduled meetings. This trip marks Vice President Vance’s first official visit to India. His itinerary included stops in Jaipur and Agra before he concludes his two-nation tour of Italy and India and returns to Washington on April 24.
In a separate show of solidarity, U.S. President Donald Trump also called Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day to offer condolences and U.S. support following the attack, which claimed the lives of dozens of tourists.
During the call, Prime Minister Modi expressed his determination to bring those responsible for the Pahalgam attack to justice, signaling a tough response.
“President Donald Trump conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. President Trump strongly condemned the attack and expressed full support to India to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. India and the United States stand together in the fight against terror,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.
