Temple panel seeks affidavit of faith from non-Hindu visitors, including Sara Ali Khan

MUMBAI — Bollywood actor Sara Ali Khan has been asked to submit an affidavit affirming her belief in Sanatan Dharma if she wishes to offer prayers at the Badrinath and Kedarnath temples, according to officials overseeing the prominent Himalayan shrines.
Hemant Dwivedi, chairman of the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, said Tuesday that the requirement would apply to all non-Hindu visitors seeking to perform पूजा rituals at the temples.
“If Sara Ali Khan expresses her devotion towards Sanatan Dharma and submits an affidavit, we will allow her to offer prayers,” Dwivedi told reporters.
He added that non-Hindu devotees would be required to provide proof stating their belief in Hinduism before being permitted to enter and worship at the temples.
Sara Ali Khan has frequently visited Kedarnath Temple over the years, developing a visible personal connection to the site since filming her debut movie, “Kedarnath,” in 2017. She has returned nearly every year during the temple’s open season, which typically runs from April to November.
Located at an altitude of about 3,583 meters in the Himalayas, the Kedarnath shrine is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in India and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During her visits, the actor typically participates in standard rituals, including early morning darshan and offerings.
Her trips are generally personal in nature and not linked to film promotions. She has also shared glimpses of her visits on social media, often showing the temple set against snow-covered peaks and documenting her participation in prayers.
The temple committee’s statement signals a stricter approach toward entry requirements for non-Hindu visitors at the high-profile pilgrimage sites. (Source: IANS)
