Chennai– Tamil actor Srikanth has been arrested by Chennai’s Nungambakkam police following a narcotics investigation that confirmed his involvement in substance abuse. The arrest comes in the wake of a broader crackdown by law enforcement on drug-related offenses in the city’s entertainment and nightlife circles.

According to police sources, Srikanth allegedly procured one gram of cocaine from Prasad, a former AIADMK functionary, for ₹12,000. Investigations revealed that the actor used the drug over 40 times. Financial transactions related to the purchase, amounting to ₹4.72 lakh, were reportedly made via Google Pay—a fintech trail that further linked Srikanth to the supplier.

Prasad had previously been arrested in connection with a pub brawl in Chennai, during which he named Srikanth as one of his clients. Based on this information, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit questioned the actor and collected blood samples, which later tested positive for narcotic substances. The tests were conducted at a government hospital in Chennai.

Authorities are now expanding their investigation to explore potential connections between Srikanth and other members of the Tamil film industry who may be linked to the case. Further arrests are not ruled out.

Srikanth, who made his acting debut with the 2002 Tamil hit Roja Koottam, quickly rose to fame with a series of successful films including April Madhathil, Manasellam, and Parthiban Kanavu. He later ventured into Telugu cinema with Okariki Okaru and built a versatile career across industries with notable performances in films such as Bose, Kana Kandaen, Poo, Nanban, and Coffee with Kadhal.

His arrest has sent shockwaves through the industry, prompting renewed discussions around substance abuse in the film world and its growing visibility in law enforcement investigations. (Source: IANS)
