South Asian Women to Join Boston Women’s March for America on Jan. 21

BOSTON– A group of South Asian women are organizing a unique ​South Asian Coalition​ to march together as part of the larger ​Boston Women’s March for America​, which is expecting close to 15,000 participants.

The march will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2017, the day after President-Elect Donald J. Trump is sworn into office, in Boston Common in Boston.  The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit the ​South Asian Coalition’s Facebook page​, and register using the ​Eventbrite link​.

“We will be gathering on Boston Common starting at 11 AM on Saturday, January 21st, and follow the group of marchers after the opening program,” the group said in a statement.

South Asian women are among the most highly educated and professional ​demographic in America.

“We​ are CEOs, ​business leaders, healthcare professionals, engineers and scientists, community activists, educators, innovators, and investors.  We represent all professions across Massachusetts and America,” organizers said in a statement.

Organizers of the event include Sheetal Acharya and Charu Gupta.

“We stand in solidarity with all women to protect our fundamental rights to equal pay. ​We deserve to work and succeed in a workplace safe from harassment and with opportunities for growth and leadership that are similar to those received by men​ and regardless of our cultural heritage​,” the statement said. “We support ​a woman’s right to choose​ and access to affordable healthcare​.   Please encourage your friends and family to join this march in solidarity of all women and all Americans.”
