BOSTON– A group of South Asian women are organizing a unique South Asian Coalition to march together as part of the larger Boston Women’s March for America, which is expecting close to 15,000 participants.
The march will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2017, the day after President-Elect Donald J. Trump is sworn into office, in Boston Common in Boston. The event is free and open to the public. “We will be gathering on Boston Common starting at 11 AM on Saturday, January 21st, and follow the group of marchers after the opening program,” the group said in a statement.
South Asian women are among the most highly educated and professional demographic in America.
“We are CEOs, business leaders, healthcare professionals, engineers and scientists, community activists, educators, innovators, and investors. We represent all professions across Massachusetts and America,” organizers said in a statement.
Organizers of the event include Sheetal Acharya and Charu Gupta.
“We stand in solidarity with all women to protect our fundamental rights to equal pay. We deserve to work and succeed in a workplace safe from harassment and with opportunities for growth and leadership that are similar to those received by men and regardless of our cultural heritage,” the statement said. “We support a woman’s right to choose and access to affordable healthcare. Please encourage your friends and family to join this march in solidarity of all women and all Americans.”
