Richa Chadha Returns to Belly Dancing Months After Delivery

MUMBAI, India — Richa Chadha has returned to belly dancing after taking a break, saying the dance form has become a personal passion rather than preparation for a role or performance.
The actress-producer recently spent time in Goa attending a five-day intensive course to deepen her understanding of belly dancing. She said she began dancing again about six to seven months after giving birth.
“I got back to dancing about 6-7 months after my delivery, I got in touch with Dipika Vijay because she is an amazing teacher,” Richa said.
She said the practice began as a way to explore belly dance as therapy during her postpartum phase and later grew into a serious personal interest.
“What started as an exploration into the use of belly dance as therapy, in my postpartum phase as actually blossomed into a full-blown parallel interest of mine,” she said.
“After a gap of a few years, I felt the urge to reconnect with it in a more dedicated way. This course in Goa is not for a role or a performance; it’s purely for myself, to learn, to grow, and to fall in love with the form all over again,” she added.
Richa had previously trained in tribal belly dancing under internationally known instructor Olga Meos in Kazakhstan while preparing for a special number in one of her films. She also continued training online during the lockdown, using the time to refine her movements and stay connected to dance.
Richa is also a trained Kathak dancer.
On the work front, she was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The series is set in Lahore’s Heera Mandi district during the Indian independence movement and follows the lives of tawaifs as their personal and political struggles unfold under British colonial rule.
