Prabasi, LearnQuest and MITHAS Present Hindustani Vocal Concert With Ajoy Chakraborty on Nov. 3 at Kresgie Auditorium at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MA—Prabasi of New England, LearnQuest Academy of Music and MITHAS are jointly presenting a vocal concert with Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty on Nov. 3 at Kresge Auditorium at MIT in Cambridge, MA.

Mr. Chakraborty, one of the legendary Indian classical vocalists of today, will be accompanied by Anol Chatterjee and Soumen Sarkar on tabla and Gourab Chatterjee on harmonium. The concert will be held from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Tickets are $40, $55 and $75. There are organization and student discounts.

“Pandit Chakraborty is a legendary vocalist of Patiala Gharana, representing Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib’s gayaki. He is also the father of famous Kaushiki Chakraborty,” said Pradeep Shukla, president of LearnQuest Academy. “It is heartening to see that three organizations like Prabasi, LearnQuest and Mithas have come together to present this program.”

Although considered a scion of the Patiala-Kasur Gharana, Pandit Chakraborty can equally portray even the most subtle features of other major classical gharanas of India like Indor, Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, Agra, Kirana, Rampur and even Carnatic music of South India, according to his official bio.

His father, late Shri Ajit Kumar Chakraborty, Shri Pannalal Samanta and Shri Kanaidas Baigari were the ones, with whom his initial orientation happened, before he was warmly accepted by the ultimate and the greatest Guru of all times, Padmabhushan Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. His training was then continued under Ustad Munawar Ali Khan (son of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan).
