Piyush Goyal to Visit US for G20 Trade Meeting, Bilateral Talks

New Delhi — Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5 to attend the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and hold a series of bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Monday.

Goyal will participate in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 30 and October 1 at the invitation of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

The meeting will bring together trade ministers from G20 economies to discuss major global trade issues and the future of the multilateral trading system.

India is expected to call for a rules-based, open, inclusive, transparent, equitable and non-discriminatory global trading framework centered on the World Trade Organization. It will also stress the need to preserve sufficient policy flexibility for developing countries.

Goyal is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts on the sidelines of the G20 gathering. The talks are expected to focus on expanding opportunities for farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and other businesses.

A major focus of the visit will be Goyal’s talks with the U.S. Trade Representative as India and the United States continue negotiations toward a balanced and mutually beneficial Bilateral Trade Agreement.

The two sides will also work toward finalizing an interim trade agreement in line with the joint statement issued by India and the United States on February 7, 2026.

During stops in Milwaukee and Chicago, Goyal will meet senior executives from major American companies in sectors including manufacturing, consumer goods, agribusiness, retail and technology.

He is also scheduled to participate in roundtable discussions with businesses, startups and innovation-focused companies, where he is expected to highlight India’s position as a growing manufacturing and investment destination and encourage stronger partnerships with Indian companies.

While in Chicago, Goyal will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi for Gandhi Jayanti and to Swami Vivekananda. He will also meet with professional organizations representing the Indian diaspora. (Source: IANS)
