BILLERICA, MA– New England Marathi Mandal, a non-profit organization serving the needs of Marathi community in the greater New England area for more than 40 years, will present Make Sankrant celebration on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Marshall Middle School in Billerica, MA. The celebration will feature a musical program that has been named “Gata Rahe Mera Dil” showcasing local artists and bands.
“It’s going to be a great program. We already have RSVPs from about 500 people,” Shilpa Kulkarni, newly-elected president of New England Marathi Mandal, told INDIA New England News. “The program will include local artists and musicians.”
Kulkarni said that along with festival celebration NEMM is launching two of its new initiatives: College and Career Mentorship program “Margdarshan” and sports and fitness program “NEMM Sole Buddies” for the community during the event.
Some of the artists participating in the Gata Rahe Mera Dil musical program include Akshay Phulgirkar, Ashwini Paranjape, Ashish Panse, Bharat Lagu, Neha Panke, Poorva Dani, Parag Sane, Sagar Tayde, Shailesh Salgar, Shirish Dandge, Swati Sane, Sujit Phanse, Sameer Paranjape, Sudipta Singh, Vibhas Paranjape, Vivek Joshi. The program is directed by Sudhanwa Agawekar.
“Approximately 500 people including kids will be attending the event. We will be doing small segments for everybody in this event. There will be activities for kids, Haldi-Kunkum for women, a small ceremony for younger kids and an entertainment program ‘Gata Rahe Mera Dil’ for all ages,” Kulkarni said. “Gata Rahe Mera Dil’ is a live orchestra of Hindi songs with Marathi interlude. All local, talented artists from the community are going to perform in this segment.”
