Mandar Dewoolkar Appointed Dean of UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
BURLINGTON, VT — Mandar Dewoolkar has been appointed dean of the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Vermont following a national search.
Dewoolkar currently serves as interim dean of the college and is a professor of civil and environmental engineering. He is also a faculty fellow at the Gund Institute for Environment. His previous roles at the university include serving as a sustainability fellow and service-learning fellow.

Dewoolkar holds a doctoral degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, a master of technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, and a bachelor of engineering degree from the University of Mumbai.
His research focuses on geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, transportation geotechnics, hazard mitigation, and engineering education. His work includes physical and numerical modeling, as well as field and laboratory testing, to study the effects of environmental conditions and extreme events on natural and built systems. He has collaborated with researchers across multiple disciplines and has received funding from agencies including the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, among others.
Dewoolkar has received several teaching and research honors, including the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award and Vermont Campus Compact’s Engaged Scholar Award. He is also a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Throughout his academic career, he has supervised more than 100 student researchers and mentored over 80 service-learning projects involving community partners across Vermont.

Dewoolkar’s appointment follows a national search and formalizes his leadership of the college.
