“Maahiya” to Feature Hindi and Punjabi Folk Songs and Dance Performances on June 8 at Chinmaya Mission

ANDOVER, MA–New England-based Indian Folk Group is presenting a musical event – Maahiya – featuring Hindi and Punjabi folk songs and a few dance performances.

The event is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 8 at the Chinmaya Mission Auditorium located at 1 Union Street, Andover, MA.

India’s rich cultural diversity has greatly contributed to various forms of folk music. This event celebrates that diversity.

The concept, lyrics, and music are by singer-composer-poet Kiran Nath who has several Hindi and Punjabi folk albums to her credit. Her Punjabi folk song album – Mehndi Shagnaan Di – released by TIPS Music remains a classic in the folk genre.

The line-up of singers includes Kiran Nath, Shuchita Rao, Meena Sundaram, Mitali Wahidi, Anu Upneja, Parul Kumar, Parveen Minocha, Bela Kaul, Kumkum Pareek Malik, Jasleen Kaur, Sanjay Jain, Preetesh Shrivastava, Pankaj Shah, Bibek Das, Preetpal Singh, Kunal Nath and Shameek Nath.

There will also be a dance performances by Pooja Tiwari.

Musicians Chris Pereji (keyboards), Bill Lenderking (guitar), Rajesh Pai (dholak/tabla), and Abhilash Mehta (dholak/tabla) will also be gracing the occasion.

Net proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
