LEXINGTON, MA—Indian-Americans in Lexington will celebrate Holi, festival of colors, on May 20 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in Hasting Park in Lexington, MA.

“You have endured another cold gray winter with snow, ice, salt, and sand. It is spring time. It is time to change the scene,” organizers of the event said in a statement. “What better way than to add colors to the scenery, to reflect the heart’s desire to see colorful things, to match nature’s urge to paint the trees green, to welcome and celebrate spring.”

In India, Holi announces the arrival of spring and the passing of winter. The festival breathes an atmosphere of social merriment, the statement said.

“You will be excited to know that we (Festival of Colors team) are bringing this wonderful tradition from India to Lexington,” the statement said. “With this event, we want to celebrate the many colors in our lives and the oneness of it all.”

During the 4-hour program:

  • You will enjoy Irish, Chinese, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip hop, Flamenco, Mexican, Russian, Croatian, Indian dances, musical bands like High School, Boolywood Band and many more.
  • You can relish Italian (Bertucci’s), Mexican, American, Indo-Chinese and Indian cuisines from the vegetarian food stalls and of course there will be hot jalebi, cupcakes and ice cream (Moe’s)! Not to mention Dosa and Uttapam.
  • There will be booths/vendors (Empow, Einstein’s Workshop, DCU, etc.) from different communities displaying their wares and services.
  • There is entertainment for all ages including bounce houses, henna and face painting booths.
  • Finally, the attendees will be playing with dry organic powdered colors – a tradition from India where people welcome spring and greet friends by applying colors on each other’s faces and throwing colors in air.

“We would like to invite the entire Lexington community to join us in this celebration,” the statement said.
