INDIA New England News: Please tell our readers about your work and what you enjoy most about it.

Kanan Sachdeva: I have run a financial services practice with Northwestern Mutual since 2011, helping people achieve financial security, independence and turn their aspirations into reality.

Not only do I help my clients reach financial goals, but protect what matters most to them. With the help of my customizable advising, my clients move toward building their most amazing future – that is the most exciting part of my work!

INE: To which charitable, community and professional groups do you belong and why?

KS: Personally, positively impacting our community is something I value dearly. I have supported various organizations, including India Society of Worcester, Telugu Association of Greater Boston, Marathi Association, United India Association of New England, New England Tamil Sangam, Telangana NRI Association, Big Help Foundation, Indian Medical Association of New England and South Asian Showdown. These organizations bring our community together.

Whether it’s through donations, sponsorships, memberships and/or volunteering opportunities, I support the community to the best of my ability. My family and I support Northwestern Mutual’s national philanthropic platform, fighting childhood cancer. As a family, we run several camps benefiting children impacted by cancer throughout the year.

Professionally, I have been a lifetime member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and have qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table every year since 2012. I am the recipient of many accolades at Northwestern Mutual, including Lives Leaders and a variety of new financial professionals awards. I sat on the 2017 Board of Advisors in our network office and am currently a Board member with the Asian-American Field Advisory Council.

INE: What are your hobbies and interests?

KS: I love music and enjoy dancing to the beats of Bollywood. Growing up, I participated in numerous dance shows and competitions and had the privilege to judge community-based dance and talent shows. I love to travel the world with my family, having visited many countries. One thing that I believe in is being “fit” – physically, emotionally and mentally.

I believe that Knowledge is power. Besides meeting the industry continuing education courses and credits, I am currently enrolled at The American College pursuing more designations in my field.

INE: In what way do you feel you have positively influenced or served the local community, your company/organization or professional field?

KS: I found a common theme when I started this profession. There seemed to be a scarcity of knowledge when it came to holistic financial planning.  By educating my clients through a variety of material, I close the gaps and show our clients what’s possible. Thanks to technology, I am able to easily disseminate information that is easily accessible to my clients. This is a great way for our community to become informed.  Every time I get an email from someone in our community thanking me for my work, I know I have done my job.

One cause close to my heart is financial literacy for children. Our children are the future of this country and we are dedicated to running children-focused financial literacy seminars. Working to promote these seminars at India Youth Group (a part of India Society of Worcester), Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts and local community schools.

I have also supported children in our community by volunteering my time in teaching and choreographing dances for various groups, with one of my teams choreographed invited to perform at the Celtics pregame performance. They put up an amazing show!

Professionally, I have participated in panel discussions, presentations and interviews for other advisors from all over the country. Another way I give back to our industry is by mentoring diverse young advisors.
