NEWTON, MA–In a celebration of India’s diverse culture and vibrant folk-art heritage, Raksha Soni, a multi-talented artist of traditional Indian art forms, unveiled a solo exhibition showcasing the timeless allure of Madhubani, Kalamkari, Pattachitra, Kerala Mural, and Kangra style artforms.

The opening reception was held at Newton Free Public Library earlier this month, and exhibition will remain in the main hall until May 30th.

The exhibition promises a captivating journey into the soul of India’s artistic traditions. The attendees thoroughly relished the reception, exhibiting enthusiasm for delving into the narratives behind each painting.

The exhibition stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of India’s folk-art traditions, fostering appreciation and admiration for the artforms. In celebrating Madhubani, Kalamkari, Pattachitra, and Kerala Mural art forms, the exhibition serves as a reminder of the timeless beauty and cultural richness that continue to thrive in the heart of India.

Kalamkari art is from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, depicting mythological stories, flora, and fauna. Madhubani art form originated from the Mithila region of Bihar, and it is renowned for its bold colors, intricate patterns, and mythological motifs. Each painting narrates tales of love, harmony, spirituality, and scenes from ancient Indian scriptures. Pattachitra unfolds in the state of Odisha and West Bengal. It is characterized by intricate detailing, vibrant colors, and fine brushwork.

Artist Soni said: “I am fascinated by the richness and diversity of traditional Indian folk-art forms, which has been an important part of the culture and passed down through generations. It’s not just an artistic expression but also a way to portray the stories, memories, values and beliefs.”
