Indian court hands death sentence to man in acid attack case

Mumbai– In the first such instance, a Special Court here on Thursday awarded the death penalty to a man convicted of throwing sulphuric acid on a Delhi girl in 2013.

Convict Ankur Panwar was awarded death penalty in the Preeti Rathi acid attack case of May 2013.

Special Women’s Court Special Judge A.S. Shende had on Tuesday found  Panwar guilty of hurling sulphuric acid in Mumbai on Delhi resident Rathi, which resulted in her death a month later.

After hearing both sides on the quantum of punishment over the past two days, Special Judge Shende pronounced the death verdict on Panwar, who was the victim’s neighbour in Delhi.
