LAS VEGAS–India’s Urvashi Rautela, who has described herself as the ‘youngest Indian Bollywood actress to win maximum number of beauty titles in entire pageant history ever’ on Instagram, was out of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. Miss Universe Philippines was crowned as Miss Universe 2015.
Miss Universe pageant apologized for initially announcing the wrong winner.
“The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on The Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated. Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong winner was initially announced,” Miss Universe pageant said on its website. “Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, Miss Universe Philippines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans. We congratulate Miss Universe Philippines as Miss Universe 2015.”
Urvashi, who was born in Kotdwar in Uttarakhand, could not make it to the final 15.
In 2009, at the age of 15, she clinched the Miss Teen India crown. Two years later, she won two titles – Miss Asian Supermodel and Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International.
In 2012, she bagged the Miss Universe India title but was later dethroned as she did not meet the age requirement.
It’s been 15 years since India won the Miss Universe title. Lara Dutta, now an actress, was crowned back in 2000.
Contestants from Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Philippines, France, US, Curacao, Belgium, Japan, Venezuela, South Africa, Colombia, Mexico and Thailand, who even won National Costume Competition for wearing an outfit that was more like a slimmed down version of the country’s iconic three-wheeler, advanced to the next round.
Apart from the judging panel that includes Emmy Award-nominated actress Niecy Nash, celebrity entertainment mogul Perez Hilton, former Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo and football legend, Emmitt Smith, this year fans across the globe had a say in in the crowning of the Miss Universe.
