BOSTON–In a major move, India Association of Greater Boston, which has traditionally celebrated India’s Independence Day at Boston’s Hatch Shell along the scenic Charles River, announced that it will host India Day at the Boston City Hall Plaza this year.
“The Boston City Hall Plaza boasts an open space that is not only easily accessible by public transportation but is also surrounded by other City attractions,” Sanjay Gowda, Vice President of India Association of Greater Boston, known as IAGB, told INDIA New England News. “India Day Festival 2018 will be a day-long event and City Hall Plaza provides perfect ambiance and space for various activities, including cultural programs and other fun filled activities for all ages.”
India’s 71st Independence Day celebrations will be held on August 19, 2018 at the Boston City Hall Plaza.
Gowda said the an event at City Hall Plaza will also be more cost-effective.
“We believe City Hall Plaza is cost effective than other venues for the planned day-long activities,” Gowda said, adding that the Boston City Hall Plaza can accommodate 100+ vendors and provides a great opportunity to reach out a larger audience. The new venue can accommodate over 100,000 people.
IAGB said in a statement that the India Day Festival is being planned to be a day-long event, featuring various activities, including some cultural programs and other fun-filled engagement for all ages.
“Boston is a melting pot of culture and arts. The Boston City Plaza boasts an open space that is not only easily accessible by public transportation, but is surrounded by other attractions like Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market and the Freedom Trail along with multiple parking options,” the statement said.
IAGB is in early planning stages and will soon announce the event details. Sponsors, exhibitors and food vendors are invited to take advantage of this event, the statement said. IAGB expects a large turnout, similar to its prior celebrations.
