IAGB Hosts Antakshari Semifinals on Saturday, Extends Essay Competition Deadline

BURLINGTON, MA—As India Association Greater Boston gets ready to celebrate India’s Republic Day celebration on Jan. 28 at Burlington High School in Burlington, MA, INDIA New England News discussed the program in an exclusive video interview with IAGB Vice President Praveena Naduthota and IAGB Board Member Ruchi Agarwal.

Meanwhile, IAGB also announced on its Facebook that the last date for the essay contest has been extended to Jan. 15, 2017.

Here are the instructions on how to participate in the IAGB essay contest:

  1. This competition will be held in 2 categories. Please select the appropriate category below.
  2. Topics for the essay are as follows:

Category A: Middle School – Describe an Indian cultural or traditional heritage that you cherish the most.

Category B: High School -What being an Indian-Americans means to me.

  1. Essay will be in English, between 500-650 words, single spaced, size 12, Times Roman font and in Pdf format.
  2. Only one entry per person is allowed.
  3. The essay should not have been entered in any other competitions.
  4. The name, address, age, school of the child will be mentioned on each entry.
  5. Each submission will come with an honor code with the submission,” I pledge that this is my original essay and that I have not received any unauthorized aid for it from anyone else”. Its inclusion on the essay will be viewed as an “electronic acceptance”.
  6. Participation is open to all students within USA with or without Indian roots.
  7. All entries will be e-mailed to iagbessaycontest@gmail.com
  8. Last date for entries is midnight of December 10th 2016 EST. No late entries will be entertained.
  9. Only entries via this medium will be accepted
  10. Subject line of email will mention category of the entry ( as selected below)
  11. Decision of the judges will be final.
  12. Names of judges will not be disclosed until after the results have been declared.
  13. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category
  14. A letter to the school Principal of the winning students will be sent outlining the competition and congratulating the student and school.
  15. All entries will become the property of IAGB and it can use them, promote them or post them through its social media channels
  16. The purpose of this essay competition is to encourage participants to share their personal thoughts on their “Indian-experiences”.
  17. Plagiarism will disqualify the entry.
  18. IAGB retains the right to make any changes to the contest.

IAGB, a non-profit community organization known for organizing India’s Republic Day and Independence Day events in Boston, is going to make history on its Republic Day 2017 celebrations.

For the first time, IAGB will host day-long Republic Day Mela, which will have a number of 10 parallel competitions on that day.

Republic Day Mela will end the day with a IAGB first-ever LIVE Antakshari Competition Grand Finale. IAGB hosting its semifinal Antakshari  competition this Saturday, Jan. 7 in Priya restaurant in Lowell, MA. Out of more than 30, ten teams have been selected to participate in the semi-final . Four winners will go to the final live Antakshari Competition on IAGB-organized Republic Day celebrations at Burlington High School in Burlington on Jan. 28.
