DHAKA, Bangladesh — A 28-year-old Hindu man was found dead with visible injury marks and his limbs tied in Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district, a day before the country’s general elections, heightening concerns among minority communities amid an already tense political climate.

Police said the victim, identified as Ratan Shuvo Kar, worked at the Champara Tea Garden under the Islampur union. His body was recovered from the tea estate with both his hands and feet bound.

According to local media reports, residents discovered the body inside the tea garden around 10 a.m. on Wednesday and immediately informed authorities. Eyewitness accounts said the body bore multiple injury marks and was found in a blood-soaked condition.

A co-worker told local media that Kar may have been killed elsewhere and that his body was later brought to the tea garden and dumped. Officials said that claim has not yet been verified.

Some local residents have speculated that the killing could be linked to the charged election atmosphere, though no evidence has emerged to confirm any connection to the polls.

The incident has intensified anxiety in the area, particularly as voting is set to take place amid political uncertainty and heightened tensions.

Kar’s elder brother, Laxman Kar, told Bangladeshi media that the family had been searching for him since Tuesday night after he did not return home.

“This morning, we were informed that his body was lying in the garden. We went there and identified him. We do not know why he was killed,” he said.

Police said the body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities added that a detailed investigation is underway to establish whether the killing was connected to the election process or motivated by other factors. As of now, officials have not confirmed the circumstances surrounding Kar’s death.

The killing comes amid growing concerns over the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh during a period of political volatility. (Source: IANS)
