Budapest– Indian embassies and consulates around the world held solemn ceremonies on Thursday to honor the victims of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 innocent tourists were killed and several others critically injured in one of the most brutal assaults in the region in recent memory.
The attack unfolded in the scenic Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where four heavily armed terrorists—two of them reportedly from Pakistan—emerged from dense forest and opened indiscriminate fire on unarmed tourists. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and an outpouring of grief from across the globe.
In Budapest, the Embassy of India organized a condolence meeting attended by members of the Indian community in Hungary and local supporters of India. Participants gathered to pay tribute to the victims and express their solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism.
Similar tributes were observed in Russia, where the Consulate General of India in Saint Petersburg hosted a prayer meeting and observed a two-minute silence. Members of the Indian diaspora participated in the ceremony, offering prayers and homage to those who lost their lives.
In Algeria, employees of Indian infrastructure company IRCON International Limited and their families held a memorial tribute. The group expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and reaffirmed their collective stance against terrorism.
In Germany, a large number of Indian community members and local officials gathered in Hamburg to pay their respects. The Finance Senator of Hamburg, Andreas Dressel, along with members of the Hamburg Senate and Indian diaspora leaders, took part in a moving ceremony organized by the Consulate General of India.
“The world stands in solidarity with India,” the consulate posted on X. “Finance Senator of Hamburg, Andreas Dressel, members of the Hamburger Senate, friends of India, and Indian diaspora joined in large numbers to pay homage to the innocent lives lost in the recent Pahalgam terror attack.”
The coordinated observances underscore the global condemnation of terrorism and the shared grief of communities worldwide over the attack. They also reflect a united call for justice and accountability in the face of such violence. (Source: IANS)
