Futurist Rishad Tobaccowala Talks About Globalization, Diversity, Connectedness, Data, Trust and Transparency

BOSTON—Those who are in the media, marketing and public relations, the name Rishad Tobaccowala (yes, Mr. Tobaccowala) is quite familiar. He is the Chief Growth Officer of the world third largest public relations firm: Publicis Groupe.

Known as re-inventor, futurist and transformation catalyst, Tobaccowala says “The future does not fit in the containers of the past.

While he was in Boston as the keynote speaker at the Akshay Patra fundraising gala earlier this year, he sat down for a video interview on Face-to-Face with Upendra Mishra.

Mr. Tobaccowala’s key skill is getting people to see, think and feel differently about how to grow themselves, their teams and their company, according to his official website. He does this through distilling 40 years of global learning and wisdom and communicating in a way that is provocative, pragmatic and inspirational.

He is Chief Growth Officer and member of the Management Committee of Publicis Groupe, the world’s third largest communication  firm with 80,000 employees. He was named by BusinessWeek as one of the top business leaders for his pioneering innovation and TIME magazine dubbed him one of five “Marketing Innovators.”

Mr. Tobaccowala’s first book “Restoring the Soul of Business: Staying Human in the Age of Data” will be published globally on January 28, 2020. His writings can be found on the Re-Inventing blog.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Tobaccowala was the Chief Strategist and Member of the Directoire/+ of Publicis Groupe. Before his corporate role, Rishad was the Chairman of DigitasLBi and Razorfish, two global firms owned by the Publicis Groupe with over 10,000 employees around the world focused on marketing and business transformation.

He has 36 years of experience around the world and helped grow, founded/co-founded or incubated a variety of companies including VivaKi,  Leo Burnett, Starcom, SMG Next, Starcom IP, Giant Step, Play, and Denuo.

Mr. Tobaccowala has a BS in Mathematics from the University of Bombay and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
