BOSTON — Mona Khaitan, an accounting and Hindu Studies educator at Massachusetts Bay Community College, is a passionate supporter of Vidya Bharati, India’s largest non-governmental education network.
Her involvement with the organization runs deep—she helped establish two Vidya Bharati schools in India and proudly continues the legacy of her grandfather, who founded one of the first Vidya Bharati schools nearly 90 years ago.
In a recent conversation with Vidya Bharati USA volunteer Mona Chopra, Ms. Khaitan shared her journey with the organization and ways the broader community can support its mission.
Ms. Khaitan has been teaching accounting at MassBay since 1993, serving both business and accounting majors. In 2006, she expanded her teaching portfolio to include Hindu Studies, further enriching the academic experience for her students and deepening her commitment to value-based education.

Vidya Bharati USA will host its first-ever Leadership Reception and Gala on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Massachusetts. This inspiring evening will bring together changemakers, community leaders, and advocates of education to support underprivileged children across India.
The event is organized by the Indus Education Empowerment Foundation, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, in partnership with Aashraya, Edufront, and The Jha Group.
With a presence in 88% of India’s districts, Vidya Bharati currently serves over 3.3 million students through more than 14,000 formal schools and nearly 10,000 informal learning centers. Its focus goes beyond academics—emphasizing character development, cultural values, and leadership to nurture future doctors, engineers, public servants, and changemakers.
