“I feel so fortunate to be involved with the care of so many patients, including the rising numbers of patients from the South Asian community during my tenure at Joslin over the past 4 decades,” said Dr. Ganda. “As we are getting close to celebrating the legendary Dr Joslin’s 150th birthday in 2019, we are reminded of the compassionate care he provided to his patients even before any treatments for diabetes were available. He was a Philanthropist, par excellence.”

Dr. Ganda said he hopes to inspire gratefulness in Joslin patients and make Joslin unique in compassionate caring, educating and explaining how and why the disease progresses and why adherence to treatment is important.

John Perry, Chief Philanthropy Officer at Joslin, said he is pleased that Dr. Ganda has agreed to take on this important position.

“Dr. Ganda has a rich understanding of the care that has been given to patients over his 40 year tenure,”  said Perry, adding that Dr. Ganda’s “knowledge of Joslin Diabetes Center, and the impact it has had on patients since Dr. Joslin first opened his doors to care for people with diabetes, will help us share this important message of care, and gratitude for our medical staff.”

Dr. Ganda is Medical Director of the Lipid Clinic, and Chair of the Clinical Oversight Committee at Joslin Diabetes Center. His special interests include Lipid Disorders, Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Risk Reduction. In addition, he is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Ganda also conducts clinical trials examining the relationship between type 1 and type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He graduated from S.M.S. Medical College in India in 1966 and did his residency at All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
