CONCORD, MA—Emerson Hospital, which this month was named a Top Urban Hospital by the Leapfrog Group, has elected Dr. Raj Devarajan as president of its medical staff, the hospital said in a statement.
Dr. Devarajan, a gastroenterologist, was elected to this position by his peers. He will serve a two-year term that began October 1. He succeeds Dr. James Street, chair, Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Emerson.
As president of Emerson’s medical staff, Dr. Devarajan is responsible for providing leadership to his colleagues and acting as a liaison between the medical staff and the hospital’s administration and Board of Directors, according the statement.
A resident of Acton, MA, Dr. Devarajan practices at Middlesex Gastroenterology in Acton. He has served as chief of gastroenterology at Emerson Hospital. Dr. Devarajan completed his residency and fellowship training at the medical schools of Yale University, Harvard University and Tufts University. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and psychiatry.

Emerson Hospital is a multi-site health system headquartered in Concord, MA., with additional facilities in Sudbury, Groton and Westford. The 179-bed hospital provides advanced medical services to more than 300,000 individuals in 25 towns.
