Classical Music and Dance Event by Cancer Institute Foundation This Weekend

WALTHAM, MA—Local classical singers and dancers will perform on Saturday, June 11, to raise funds to benefit Adyar Cancer Institute in India. The event is organized by US-based Cancer Institute Foundation. Every dollar raised here will go towards treatment of cancer for the poor and under-privileged, organizers said.

There will be three separate segments at the program. First one is instrumental Durga Krishnan on Veena and her students, accompanied by Pravin Sitaram on Mridangam and Rajesh Pai on Tabla. The second segment is Carnatic Vocal by Aparna Balaji and her students, accompanied by Pravin Sitaram on Mridangam and Smitha Krishnan on violin. The third segment is Bharat Natyam Dance by Sapna Krishnan and her students.

The artists will be presenting popular and rare pieces while raising funds for cancer treatments for the needy. Several volunteers, vendors, restaurants, business, organizations have donated their time, efforts and passion to support this noble cause.

The program will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Trottier Middle School in Southborough, MA.

Dr.Venu Bathini, Director of the Hematology Oncology Fellowship Training program and In-patient services for hematology oncology, Assistant Professor at UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Medical Center will be the Guest of Honor.

Jeyanthi Ghatraju will be the Master of Ceremony coordinating the event on Saturday.

Cancer is curable in most cases if it is detected early, treated by experts and followed up rigorously – what the dedicated team of physicians, surgeons, nurses and the support staff of the Cancer Institute strives for every day.

Adyar Cancer Institute is the only free standing, non-profit, non-Government, autonomous institution, providing excellent care to cancer patients regardless of their financial status since 1954. About 60 percent get treatment free or subsidized. Adyar Cancer Institute also supports Cachar Cancer Hospital, 50-bedded center located in Silchar town, serving the people of Barak river valley and the neighboring states of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
