BOSTON–The South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston (SABA GB) announced that it has re-elected attorney Saraa Basaria as its new president. The organization also announced its Board of Directors for 2017 as well as a planned expansion of its award-winning “Know Your Rights!” (KYR) program offering community-based legal education.
The SABA GB Executive Committee for 2017 consists of Saraa Basaria, President; Manmeet Kaur Desai, Vice President; Rashima Shukla, Secretary; and Amal Bala, Treasurer. SABA GB’s 2017 Board Members are Amoli Pandya, Neil Patel, Anupama Pal, Karishma Jiva, Bharat Moudgil, Hanok George, Sumbul Siddiqui, and Gayatri Deodhar.
SABA GB also announced exciting new outreach initiatives this year to benefit the South Asian community. Broadening SABA GB’s successful Know Your Rights! (KYR) program, KYR Forum will offer quarterly forums with expert legal panelists that will be open to the community-at-large regarding issues such as immigration, civil rights, and discrimination.
SABA GB’s first KYR Forum event was a well-attended post-election panel that addressed community members’ concerns including immigration and backlash following the presidential election.
Additionally, SABA GB plans to offer KYR University, expanding the campuses for its award-winning classes that provide South Asian community leaders with classes on topics including employment law, consumer protection, criminal law, the court system and legislative process, family law and domestic violence, immigration, Social Security and disability law, Medicaid, and elder care.
