Superstar Dileep collects passport from court for travel to Dubai
Kochi–Malayalam superstar Dileep, currently out on bail in a case involving alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of an actress in February, on Monday collected his passport from the Angamaly magistrate court for his travel to Dubai.
Accompanying Dileep on his Dubai trip is his actress wife Kavya Madhavan and his daughter from his earlier marriage to actress Manju Warrier.
Last week the Kerala High Court permitted Dileep to travel to Dubai and directed the trial court to hand over his passport for six days and gave him permission to be in Dubai for four days, so as to enable him to take part in the inauguration of — Dhe Puttu — a restaurant that he co-owns with friend and actor Nadir Shah.
The two have a hugely successful – Dhe Puttu – that has been functioning here for a few years.
The High Court gave the nod for his travel despite stiff opposition from the prosecution and the police on the grounds that Dileep, after coming out on bail, had been trying to influence crucial witnesses in the case — a charge denied by the actor’s counsel.
Sunny Leone promotes animal-free fashion
Mumbai–Actress Sunny Leone and her husband Daniel Weber have urged everyone to promote cruelty-free fashion wear.
The couple feature together in a new People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India ad, which reads: “Ink, Not Mink! Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin, and Let Animals Keep Theirs.”
“We live in a world with such amazing advances in vegan materials and options for everyone. There is no reason for anyone to support cruelty in any form. Synthetic leather, mock croc, and even faux fur are some of the many great options,” Sunny said in a statement.
Daniel says animals and humans should co-exist.
“We need to be a voice for animals and make sure we understand that, without them, there is no us. We must co-exist and learn to respect,” he added.
Sunny was named PETA’s Person of the Year in 2016 and has also starred in the organisation’s pro-vegetarian and dog and cat sterilisation campaigns.
Saiyami Kher loves horse riding
Actress Saiyami Kher, who forayed in Hindi filmdom with “Mirzya”, says horse riding interests her.
“I have been horse riding for three years now. I started learning it during prep for ‘Mirzya’ and fell in love with horses. They are extremely sensitive. I picked it up easily because of my sporting background,” Saiyami said in a statement.
“Post ‘Mirzya’, I had a break but have gotten back to horse riding and go to Mahalaxmi Racecourse once a week. I would love to own a horse someday and keep the horse at my farm house in Nasik. That’s the plan,” she added.
Currently, Saiyami has no films in her kitty.
Kriti visits Golden Temple with Bobby
Actress Kriti Kharbanda visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar along with her “Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se” co-star Bobby Deol.
Kriti and Bobby were in Amritsar for shooting a song for the movie.
“We met a bearded man who belongs to the warrior clan of the Sikhs. We got him to feature in the song. After the shoot, he blessed Bobby sir and me, gifted us a white ‘saafa’ and prayed for our future and good health,” she said in a statement.
Kriti was last seen on the silver screen with Rajkummar Rao in “Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana”.
‘Hero’ was an important film for me: Subhash Ghai
Mumbai–Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who introduced Jackie Shroff in 1983 with “Hero”, says it was an important film for him.
Ghai re-premiered the movie, starring Jackie and Meenakshi Seshadri, here on Sunday.
“My movie ‘Hero’ was an important film for me, which gave birth to a lot of stars and technicians. This movie also gave birth to me and (my banner) Mukta Arts,” Ghai said.
On why he chose to screen the film again after 35 years, Ghai said: “The movie ran for 75 weeks on the big screen, but what made me happy was that it ran for 35 years on the small screen (television). My film has been running for 35 long years.
“I think the team behind the film was talented, spirited and honest. Whether it was Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Anand Bakshi, Jackie Shroff or Meenakshi Seshadri, it shows that a film can live up to 35 to 50 years.
“I wanted the young generation to witness old classics on the big screen. They watch it on the small screen, but I want them to have the big screen experience. That’s why I have screened this movie here and started this mission to showcase one classic movie every week.”
Ghai pointed out how Jackie was not just a newcomer at the time, but a non-actor too.
