Priyanka Chopra gets Mother Teresa Memorial Award

Mumbai– Actress Priyanka Chopra, who has taken up the cause of fighting for the rights of refugees and displaced people as a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, has been feted with the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice.

Priyanka was invited by the Harmony Foundation to get the award for lending her support and contribution towards social causes. Her mother Madhu Chopra collected the honour here on her behalf.

“I humbly accept the award on her behalf. As a mother, I am immensely proud to have a child who is so compassionate and has so much kindness in her. She exemplifies the fact the more you give, the more you get.

“Even as a child, she was influenced by Mother Teresa and has been supporting Prem Niwas in Bareilly,” Madhu said in a statement.

Madhu, who co-owns the production banner Purple Pebbles Production with Priyanka, added: “I’m sure Priyanka is humbled that her efforts have been recognised by the Foundation that believes in helping the needy and supporting the deprived and raising funds for the impoverished.”

Priyanka is currently in the US and will be flying to Mumbai soon.

Neha Dhupia in happy phase in her career

New Delhi– Actress Neha Dhupia is enjoying being in a phase of her career wherein she is working with talent like Vidya Balan.

Praising her “Tumhari Sulu” co-star, Neha said Vidya is a “wonderful person”.

“My experience of shooting with Vidya has been absolutely wonderful. She is a wonderful person. She is a thorough professional. It is so exciting for me to be able to be in a phase of my career where I get to know more and more people in the industry, and out of the business, but most importantly work with talent like Vidya,” Neha told IANS.

“It seems so flattering. I learnt so much from her — whether it is her professionalism or be it her skill of understanding the craft all of it. She is spectacular.”

“Tumhari Sulu” is about a middle-class woman who takes up a job as a late night radio jockey. The film is hilarious with its depiction of the lighter and funny undertones of life. The film fared well at the box office.

Neha feels the film “goes beyond cinema”.

“It covers society in a way that a lot of us, a majority of women. Women have dreams and aspirations. They all have the talent but they don’t have the one opportunity to go out and realise how talented they are.”

Raghu Ram features in music video

Mumbai– Television personality Raghu Ram of “Roadies” fame has featured in a music video titled “Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein”.

Raghu on Tuesday shared a poster of the music video, which also features Canadian-Italian singer Natalie Di Luccio.

“I’ve been part of many projects this year. But I’ve saved the best for last. Ending this lovely year with this lovely duet and video with the utterly lovely Natalie Di Luccio. Releasing tomorrow. Hope you watch it and catch feels “Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein,” Raghu tweeted.

The song will release on Wednesday.

Raghu is known for shows like “Roadies” and “Dropout Pvt Ltd”. He has also featured in films like “Tees Maar Khan” and “Jhootha Hi Sahi”.

Kohli sajaake rakhna: Amul wishes Virat, Anushka

New Delhi– Indian dairy company Amul, through an innovative ad, has wished newly weds cricket star Virat Kohli and actress Anushka.

The company on Tuesday tweeted an advertisement where the little Amul girl is seen dressing Anushka’s character, while Virat’s character is seen holding a plate of bread and butter.

The advertisement reads: “Kohli sajaake rakhna… mehndi lagake rakhna. Amul, Vi Rush for maska.”

It was attached to a post caption: “Amul Topical: Much awaited Indian cricket captain — Bollywood actress marriage!”

Virat and Anushka’s nuptials were a close family affair in Tuscany, Italy on Monday afternoon. It was a hush-hush affair at a luxury heritage resort Borgo Finocchieto, a little over 100 km away from Florence.

Mohit Raina excited about his new period drama

Mumbai– Actor Mohit Raina, who will be essaying role of Havildar Ishar Singh in “21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897”, says the upcoming television show narrates an “extraordinary story of an ordinary person”.

“21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897” is a fiction show inspired by the real life story of 21 brave soldiers of 36th Sikh regiment of the British Indian Army who defended an army outpost at Saragarhi in the North-West Frontier Province against an onslaught by over 10,000 Pashtun and Orakzai tribals in September 1897, a statement said.

The show will beam on Discovery Jeet, which is scheduled to launch in early 2018. It is being produced by Abhimanyu Singh’s Contiloe Pictures Pvt Ltd.

Mohit will be seen playing the role of a soldier who is ready to go any extent to protect his land.

“It is very exciting to be in a period drama like ’21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897′. Period dramas have their own challenges. One must work hard to ensure that you don’t just embrace the character you are playing, you also have to understand the smaller nuances of the period to deliver an authentic experience,” Mohit said.

“For Ishar Singh the only thing mattered was his duty, service. The utmost priority was to serve the nation at any cost and be true to his people. A story of a common man turning into a savour during difficult times, an extraordinary story of an ordinary person drove me towards it,” he added.

Mohit is best known for mythological show “Devon Ke Dev Mahadev”.

‘Indian folk music heritage is vast’

Mumbai– Nirali Kartik of musical duo Maati Baani says Indian folk music heritage is vast and rich. Keeping that in mind, the musicians have unveiled a Rajasthani folk song “Rumaal”, featuring Merasi folk singer Bhutta Khan, Amita Mishra on tabla and Govind Gawli on bass.

The song gives out a strong message about society and love. It represents the societal pressure that men and women face while expressing love today.

“Indian folk music heritage is vast and so rich. While we see a lot of urban artistes gaining popularity through internet, our focus remains to dig out relatively unknown talent from heartland of India. We would now want to explore the music of northeast India,” Nirali said in a statement.

The video was shot in the desert in Barmer area.

Sagar Gokhale, Chief Operating Officer of Qyuki, said: “Maati Baani songs are well thought of and so catchy with fusion of folk and western music. Such talent is rare to find.”
