Priyanka Chopra to play Ma Anand Sheela in her next
Los Angeles– Actress Priyanka Chopra will be essaying the role of spiritual leader and Oshos disciple Ma Anand Sheela in her next project.
The actress opened up about her project, which she is also producing, during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”.
“I am developing a feature with Barry Levinson. He is an iconic American director. We are developing it (from the perspective of) Sheela who is this guru who originated from India,” Priyanka said in a video clip, which surfaced on the Internet on Wednesday.
“She was his right hand woman and she was devious. She created a whole cult in America. He was called Osho. I don’t know if you’ve heard of him. It was amazing. I am developing that next for me to star in and produce,” she added.
The story of Ma Anand Sheela gained popularity after the success of the documentary “Wild Wild Country” – which charted the growth of Osho’s community from India to setting up a cult in Oregon in the US. It highlighted the role that Sheela played in the growth of the community, and its downfall.
She appeared on the talk show to promote her Hollywood movie “Isn’t It Romantic”, which also stars Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine and Rebel Wilson.
Yami felicitated by BSF in Amritsar
Chandigarh– Actress Yami Gautam was given a memento and felicitated by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Amritsar for her performance in the hit film “Uri: The Surgical Strike”.
“BSF is the first line of defence of our country and it gives me immense pride to have met them in person and be in their company. It was kind of them leaving me overwhelmed to have given me this love and to the team,” said Yami, who visited Amritsar for the celebration of Republic Day on January 26.
The 30-year-old actress added that wherever the cast has travelled with the film, “especially meeting the men who serve our country have showered us with a great deal of appreciation and love. They have been unanimously happy with the essay of those in the armed forces and the incredible role they play in our society”.
“Uri…” is based on the surgical strikes of 2016 carried out by the Indian Armed Forces.
It also stars actors Vicky Kaushal, Kirti Kulhari and Paresh Rawal.
Karan Johar emotional to walk ramp at Royal Opera House
Mumbai– For filmmaker Karan Johar, walking the ramp at the Royal Opera House here brought back a flurry of childhood memories.
Karan was one of the star showstoppers apart from Tabu for designer Gaurav Gupta’s opening show for the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer/Resort 2019 at the iconic venue, which continues to hold significance in the cultural fabric of contemporary Mumbai.
After the show here on Tuesday night, he said: “This is very emotional moment for me. I have so many memories of watching movies in this particular space. Royal Opera House is where I have come as a child several times, watched movies, and I can’t believe that this has now transformed into this hugely iconic space.
“Just walking the ramp in this particular place makes me feel like life is completing an entire circle.”
While talking about life in circles and orbiting things that are beautiful, Karan said these things make him think of Gupta. whose work, he feels, comes with an edge.
On walking the ramp, the filmmaker who was dressed in black with a red embellished blazer adding spunk to the look.
“When I heard Tabu was opening the show, it was kind of a given that I will be here because Tabu and I go a long way back and I do believe in what Gaurav said that she is truly one of the country’s best actors — versatile like Gaurav’s garments, adaptive like Gaurav’s garments and timeless like Gaurav’s garments,” said Karan, who was recently in Davos for the World Economic Forum.
Patralekhaa gearing up for her Kannada debut
Mumbai– “CityLights” actress Patralekhaa will be making her Kannada debut with the film “Where is my Kannadaka?”.
She will be making her debut alongside Ganesh in the film, which will be helmed by Raaj and Damini.
“This is my first Kannada film and I am super excited to be working on it,” Patralekhaa said in a statement.
“While I can’t reveal about the role right now, but I can definitely say that it’s a kind of role that I haven’t portrayed on screen so far and that makes it special for me,” she added.
The film will go on floors in April and a major chunk of the film is set in London.
It will be shot in UK in April and May. The makers are looking at releasing the film in the last quarter of this year.
Body shaming started from media: Bani J
Mumbai– TV personality Bani J is against body shaming and says it started from the media.
Talking about body shaming towards celebrities, Bani said: “It all has started from media, beauty magazines back in the year 2000 where people started the constant talk of how to get flawless body and skin using certain beauty product. Fashion magazine, beauty magazine started promoting the whole thing and the unrealistic desire of getting perfect body!”
“It was a marketing gimmick that we all bought into…. And that practice has become constant,” added the former video jockey.
Bani, born and brought up in Chandigarh, started working at the age of 18. Since she was a very skinny youngster, she went through extensive training to build her physical strength. However, as she gained muscle as a girl, she faced criticism by people on her appearance.
Did that affect her confidence then?
“Well, I would say that people tried to humiliate me but they could not succeed because I do not care…. Why should I care on the comments of people who do not know how physical training and weight lifting helped me to grow stronger mentally, physically and spiritually? They don’t know anything.”
Soundarya Rajinikanth to produce historical saga
Mumbai– Superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth will be producing a historical series based on the novel “Ponniyin Selvan” for a streaming platform.
Soundarya has partnered with streaming platform MX Player through her May 6 Entertainment to produce a MX Original Series based on the epic novel, read a statement.
“‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is indeed one of the greatest historical novels written in Tamil and considered by many as the crown jewel of Tamil literature.
“The novel chronicles the power struggle and the socio-political landscape of the Chola dynasty, one of the longest ruling dynasties in Indian history and is a perfect amalgamation of an intriguing plot, romance, adventure, satire and an enduring battle for the throne,” Soundarya said.
She added: “From the day I read this amazing novel, I was determined to narrate this impeccable story in the visual medium and have explored every single avenue that offered the possibility to realize this vision…
“I am sure that the viewers will stay glued to this period drama. This show is being mounted on a large canvas, and we will ensure to our best ability that there is no stone left unturned to bring alive this marvellous novel.” (IANS)
