Chhetri Visits Mumbai Indians Camp, Receives Jersey From Pandya at Wankhede

NEW DELHI — Indian football icon Sunil Chhetri made a special visit to the Mumbai Indians training session at Wankhede Stadium, interacting with players and staff in a crossover moment between two of the country’s biggest sports.
Chhetri spent time speaking with several members of the squad, including head coach Mahela Jayawardene, bowlers Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar, and captain Hardik Pandya, sharing insights from his long and accomplished career.
“I haven’t been to the stadium a lot of times but whenever I have come, it’s an amazing feeling! It’s so good to come and see the sport differently. I wish Mumbai Indians and the fans all the very best for not only this game but throughout the tournament,” Chhetri said in a video shared by the team.
A highlight of the visit came when Pandya presented Chhetri with an official Mumbai Indians jersey, symbolizing the connection between football and cricket. Players were also seen enjoying light-hearted moments with the veteran forward during the session.
Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, have endured a slow start to their IPL 2026 campaign. The five-time champions have won just one of their first four matches, a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, and currently sit ninth in the standings.
In their most recent match, Mumbai fell to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 18 runs at home despite a strong effort in the chase.
Sherfane Rutherford was a standout performer in that game, scoring a quick-fire 71 off 31 balls, but his innings was not enough to secure victory.
The team will now look to regroup ahead of its next match against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, aiming to improve its position in the tournament. (Source: IANS)
