Rakhi Sawant makes ‘burqa’ appearance in Ludhiana court, gets bail

Chandigarh–A court in Ludhiana on Thursday granted bail to actress Rakhi Sawant, who appeared before in wearing a burqa to avoid being detected, in a case related to objectionable remarks against sage Valmiki.

Rakhi surrendered before the court on Thursday, a day ahead of the hearing of the case against her. The court had earlier issued non-bailable warrants against her last month and directed police to ensure her presence in the court on July 7.

Court sources said that the actress had submitted an “unconditional apology” to the Valmiki community for her earlier remarks made on a TV show last year following which a complaint was filed against her with the Ludhiana police. Rakhi got the bail after furnishing two bonds of Rs one lakh each. She later left for Mumbai. The court had issued non-bailable warrants against her in march this year and a Punjab Police team had gone to Mumbai to arrest her. However, it returned empty-handed as she was not found at her given address.

“Aanand L Rai and Anurag Kashyap. Two different worlds step into the ring this November. ‘Mukkabaaz’ on November 10,” read a post on the official Twitter handle of the production banner.

According to the teaser video of the film, it will narrate the story of a boxer from Uttar Pradesh who falls in love with a Brahmin girl. Rai is known for directing films like “Tanu Weds Manu” and “Raanjhanaa”. Kashyap, meanwhile, is best known for movies like “Gangs of Wasseypur”, “Ugly” and “Black Friday”.

Designer Varun Bahl to feature in ‘Shab’

Mumbai–Ace designers Wendell Rodricks and Varun Bahl are set to mark their acting debut with the film “Shab”. Rodricks has also styled actor Ashish Bisht for the Raveena Tandon and Sanjay Suri starrer.

Bahl plays himself in the film. He is seen as part of a jury panel with Raveena judging models. Ashish plays a model, and Rodricks will play an integral part in giving Ashish’s character his first break.

Talking about roping in the designers to make an appearance in his film, director Onir said in a statement: “Varun and Wendell are very dear friends and were sporting enough to immediately agree to be themselves in the film. It was fun shooting with them.

“Wendell was so sure I will edit him out as he is very camera shy, but he is in the film as a mentor to the character of Ashish who he styled. Varun looks super sexy on screen.”

Co-produced by Sanjay, Bhavna Talwar, Onir and Mohan T. Mulani, the film is slated to release on July 14.

Vinod Khanna

‘Ruk jaana nahin’ was Vinod Khanna’s favourite song

Mumbai–Actor Akshaye Khanna says popular song “Ruk jaana nahin” from the 1974 film “Imtihan” was the favourite song of his father and late actor and politician Vinod Khanna, who died earlier this year.

Akshaye, along with veteran actress Sridevi appeared on popular children singing reality show “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs Season 6” to promote their new film “Mom”. Both the actors were touched when they heard contestant Dhroon Tickoo sing the song “Ruk jaana nahin”, which was picturised on Vinod Khanna.

“This song was my father’s favourite song and you sang it so beautifully. I am so glad that I could see you performing this song live as it was absolutely mesmerising,” Akshaye said.

Sridevi felt the same, and said: “This is one of my favourite songs too and you sang it with so much soul and passion. I’m completely touched. You are a great singer, keep up the good work.”

The episode of “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs Season 6” featuring Sridevi and Akshaye will be aired on Saturday on Zee TV.

Used same style for ‘Jagga Jasoos’ as ‘Barfi!’: Anurag Basu

Mumbai–Filmmaker Anurag Basu says his upcoming film “Jagga Jasoos”, an adventurous musical, is as “feel good” as his “Barfi!”.

“Jagga Jasoos” features Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif as Jagga and Shruti, who are on an adventure hunt for Jagga’s father. The film showcases Ranbir as a school boy who is estranged from his father.

In “Barfi!”, Ranbir essayed a differently abled man who develops an innocent love story with an autistic girl. The film was a heart-wrenching story which explored the meaning of true love.

Basu says there’s a connect between both the stories.

“It’s a feel good feeling which we wanted to evoke with ‘Jagga Jasoos’. That’s why we created it close to ‘Barfi!’. My whole team is same, I didn’t even want to change my style in this film. I tried the same style that I used for ‘Barfi!’. That is why you feel there are similarities. Otherwise, the story is different,” Basu said in a statement.

The musical film marks the second collaboration of Anurag-Ranbir and music composer Pritam, who had worked together for “Barfi!”.

Disney and Pictureshuru Production’s “Jagga Jasoos” will release on July 14.
