Karisma Kapoor files a case of harassment

Mumbai–Actress Karisma Kapoor has filed a complaint of mental harassment against her estranged husband Sunjay and mother-in-law Rani Kapur. The “Biwi No.1” star’s lawyer says it is a case of harassment which is completely different from her divorce case.

“It’s not a dowry case. It’s a case of harassment and this case is completely different from the ongoing divorce case. This doesn’t even come under family court. It’s in the magistrate court. She is not claiming anything for herself,” Karisma’s lawyer Kranti Sathe told IANS.

“It is basically for the settlement of children (son Kiaan Raj Kapoor and elder daughter Samiera Kapoor). She basically wants to protect her children,” Sathe added. Reports earlier this year said the divorce petition filed by Sunjay claimed that she had married him for his money.

Neerja-poster-19Neerja’ gets stronghold at box office

Mumbai–Sonam Kapoor-starrer “Neerja” has taken off at the Indian box office on a good note. The film, based on the life of Neerja Bhanot who sacrificed her life while saving passengers on board hijacked Pan Am flight 73, has minted over Rs.38 crore since its release. According to a statement from the makers, the film, which released on February 19, has registered business of Rs 38.47 crore till now. The first weekend collection was Rs. 22.01 crore.

The film has since seen a steady growth. The day-wise figures are Monday Rs.3.7 crore, Tuesday Rs 3.41 crore, Wednesday Rs. 3.14 crore, Thursday Rs. 3.06 crore, and Friday Rs 3.15 crore, bringing the total to Rs 38.47 crore, read the statement. The film, which also also stars Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Ravjiani, has received an overwhelming response both critically and commercially.

Produced by Fox Star Studios and Bling Unplugged, the film, directed by Ram Madhvani narrates Neerja’s act of bravery.

Shraddha Kapoor finds spot in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list

Mumbai–Actress Shraddha Kapoor is humbled to find a spot in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list, and says it comes as a motivating factor for her to push the envelope. “It has not been easy to reach this level in order to feature in this prestigious list of achievers. I am humbled and motivated to keep pushing myself,” Shraddha said in a statement.

Shraddha is said to be the only name from Bollywood in the list, which also features names like cricketer Virat Kohli and international actor Liam Hemsworth. The 26-year-old star features in the 2016 magazine issue, and the list features other 300 of the top promising young leaders from 10 different sectors.

The “Ek Villain” star is listed under the entertainment and sports sector. Back home, the daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor is known for her acting, dancing as well as singing skills. This would mark her second time on a Forbes list. Shraddha has earlier ranked 57th on the 2015 Forbes Indian Celebrity 100 with annual earnings of $1.3 million. On the film front, she is now prepping for “Rock On 2” and “Baaghi”.

Om Puri to play Yamraaj in ‘Warrior Savitri’

Mumbai–The makers of upcoming action drama “Warrior Savitri” have revealed that the role of Yamraaj in their contemporary version of the Sati Savitri is played by veteran actor Om Puri.

Co-producer Upendra Maheshhwari said: “We have woven the plot around the ancient fable of Sati Savitri, Satyavaan and Yamaraj from ‘Mahabharata’ and adapted it according to contemporary setting. The role of Yamraj is played by none other than Om Puri, the title character of Savitri is played by (legendary music composer) O.P. Nayyar’s granddaughter Niharica Raizada, while Rajat Barmecha essays the character of Satyavaan.”

The story of Sati Savitri has inspired many women through the ages and Niharika is happy to play this character. “Warrior Savitri”, produced by Harinder Kanda and Maheshhwari under the banner of Dr. Bob’s Production, is releasing in the summer of 2016.

Karan Singh Grover seeks mythological inspiration

Mumbai–Actor Karan Singh Grover, who was last seen onscreen in “Hate Story 3”, says while prepping for his upcoming film “3 Dev”, he studied mythology in detail and got inspired. “I am spiritually inclined and have always known little about our mythology. But when I was prepping for ‘3 Dev’. I studied mythology in detail and was deeply inspired,” Karan said in a statement.

The “Alone” star’s character in “3 Dev” is said to be inspired by lord Vishnu. Karan will be seen playing a modern day Vishnu in the film. He is busy going through verses from the Hindu holy book Gita and other mythological books to seek inspiration for his role.

“There are so many simple lessons one can learn from them and actually apply them practically in one’s daily lives,” Karan added. Directed by Ankoosh Bhatt, “3 Dev” also stars Ravi Dubey, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Kay Kay Menon.

Sanjay Dutt should now follow Gandhigiri: Shatrughan Sinha

Mumbai–Shatrughan Sinha is happy for actor Sanjay Dutt, who returned home following his jail term, and the actor-turned-politician says Sanjay should “now follow Gandhigiri”, which he preached in the 2006 film “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”. Shatrughan took to Twitter, where he also mentioned that he is happy for his family and friends who were waiting for his release from the Yerwada Central Jail (YCJ) in Pune.

“Sanjay Dutt should now follow Gandhigiri that he preached in Munnabhai MBBS. Happy for his family and friends who waited for him to be released,” Shatrughan tweeted on Sunday.

The “Loha” star also mentioned that he is happy for Sunil Dutt, the late father of the “Khalnayak” actor. “Relieved with release of Sanjay, a dear family friend. Feel happier for late and great Sunil Dutt a true Indian and a staunch nationalist,” added the “Kalicharan” actor.

Sanjay returned to his home in Mumbai on Thursday, finally ending 23 years of legal troubles that began when he was found with an assault rifle reportedly linked to the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
