Ayush Ministry Expands Use of AI Across Healthcare, Research and Education
Ministry develops AI-enabled tools for digital health records, research, education, citizen services and investment facilitation
NEW DELHI— The Ministry of Ayush is expanding its use of artificial intelligence (AI) across healthcare, research, education and information services as it seeks to build a technology-driven ecosystem for Ayurveda and other Ayush systems.
The ministry said on Saturday that it has been exploring AI applications in healthcare, research, education, information services and investment facilitation. The emerging ecosystem includes specialised AI applications as well as collaborations with broader national AI initiatives.
A key part of the ministry’s efforts is its participation in the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, which focuses on developing AI-enabled solutions tailored to the needs of the Ayush sector.
Among the key applications being explored are voice-based electronic health records, disease-trend detection and personalised treatment-support solutions. According to the ministry, these technologies are aimed at using AI to improve healthcare delivery, generate clinical insights and strengthen patient-centric care across Ayurveda and other Ayush systems.
The Ministry of Ayush has also collaborated with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The partnership provides opportunities to explore artificial intelligence, language technologies, digital health and advanced computing for the Ayush ecosystem.
The ministry said its AI-related artefacts are now available on AI Kosh, supporting wider research and dissemination in the fields of Ayush and Ayurveda.
Language accessibility is another focus of the initiative. Through the collaboration with Bhashini, Ayush Grid portals serving Ayurveda practitioners, students and citizens are now available in 22 scheduled Indian languages. The move is intended to expand access to Ayush-related digital services across India’s linguistic diversity.
At the citizen-facing level, the MAISP Chatbot has been developed to make information related to Ayush systems, including Ayurveda, more readily accessible through a conversational interface.
The ARP Research Assistant, a generative AI-based assistant, extends the Ayush Research Portal and is designed to help researchers navigate literature relating to Ayurveda and other Ayush systems more efficiently.
AI is also being introduced into Ayush education through the eLMS Chatbot, which provides AI-based support for student life-cycle management at Ayurveda and other Ayush educational institutions.
The e-CHARAK Chatbot has been developed as a medicinal-plant trade assistant. It connects conversational AI with the ecosystem supporting medicinal-plant trade and the broader field of Ayurvedic pharmacology.
Other applications are aimed at yoga and investment services. Yoga Saarthi functions as an AI-based chatbot offering yoga recommendations, while Nivesh Saarthi serves as an AI assistant for investment-related information in the Ayush sector.
Together, these applications represent an expansion of the Ayush Grid from conventional digital portals to more interactive and user-oriented AI services.
The ministry said the growing AI ecosystem is intended to serve a wide range of users, including citizens, practitioners, students, researchers and investors.
The initiative marks an increasing focus on applying artificial intelligence and language technologies to traditional systems of medicine, while seeking to improve access to information, research resources and digital services across the Ayush sector. (Source: IANS)
