Asha Parekh Recalls Lata Mangeshkar Calling ‘Suno Sajna’ One of Her Most Difficult Songs

MUMBAI — Veteran actress Asha Parekh recalled that Lata Mangeshkar once described “Suno Sajna” from the Dharmendra-starrer “Aaye Din Bahar Ke” as one of the most difficult songs she had sung.
Parekh shared the memory during an upcoming episode of the singing reality show “Indian Idol,” which will celebrate the golden era of Hindi cinema with her as a special guest.
The moment came after contestant Ankita Mahua Giri performed “Suno Sajna,” prompting Parekh to remember both Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
“Unhone kisi interview mein yeh kaha tha ke yeh gaana mere liye sabse mushkil gaana tha kyun ki unki jo murkhiyan jo thi woh bohot hi lambi thi aur high sur mein gaaya hain toh mujhe khudko lipsync karne mein thodi takleef hoti thi,” Parekh said.
In English, she said Mangeshkar had once said in an interview that the song was among the most difficult for her because the vocal runs were very long and sung at a high pitch. Parekh said even she found it somewhat difficult to lip-sync to the track.
Parekh also recalled that Bhosle had described “Daiya Re Daiya Main Kahan Phasi” from “Caravan” as one of her most difficult songs.
“Issi taraf Asha ji sabse difficult gaana woh khud keh rahi thi woh tha Karvaan ka ‘Daiya Re Daiya Main Kahan Phasi’ bohot difficult, dono beheno ka yeh gaana. Main bohot lucky thi ki mere liye yeh dono gaane, jo mushkil gaane the woh mere naseeb mein tha,” Parekh said.
She said both songs by the sisters were challenging and that she felt lucky to have performed on them on screen.
Parekh also expressed gratitude for having had the opportunity to appear in songs sung by both Mangeshkar and Bhosle. (Source: IANS)
