India Warns Nationals Against Seeking Jobs in Malaysia on Visa-Free Entry
New Delhi — India’s High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has warned Indian nationals against using Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free entry facility to look for work, saying such attempts could result in illegal immigration status, exploitation, detention and legal action.
In an advisory issued Tuesday, the mission said there had been “a noticeable increase in Indian nationals arriving in Malaysia using the 30-day visa-free facility, to seek employment.”
The High Commission urged Indians entering Malaysia as tourists to comply with the conditions of their stay and warned them against taking up employment while using tourist entry.
It also cautioned travelers about unscrupulous agents offering fraudulent job opportunities.
“Many Indian nationals are misled by unscrupulous agents with false job promises, leading to overstay, illegal status, exploitation, detention and legal action,” the advisory said.
The mission said Malaysia’s visa-free entry facility for Indian passport holders is intended “for tourism and social visits only” and cannot be used to seek employment.
Indian tourists were also advised to carry valid and verifiable travel documents, including a confirmed return ticket, hotel booking and proof that they submitted the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online three days before arrival.
Travelers should also ensure their passports are valid for at least six months, the High Commission said.
“Once again, Indian nationals are strictly advised not to travel to Malaysia for work / employment purpose without work permit or visa with reference (VDR),” the advisory said.
The warning comes amid concerns that some Indian nationals are being lured to Malaysia by false employment offers and later finding themselves in violation of immigration rules.
