Adnan Sami Praises Madonna as the ‘Queen of Reinvention’

Mumbai — Singer Adnan Sami has praised Madonna for her ability to continually evolve, calling the pop icon the “queen of reinvention.”

Sami made the comments during an appearance on film trade analyst Komal Nahta’s podcast “Game Changers: The Music Series,” where he discussed changes in the music industry and the importance of artists adapting over time.

“In earlier days, the music industry was an extension of the film industry. The majority of hits and songs used to come through playback singing, which is a concept that exists only in India,” Sami said. “Through the direction of music directors and by adapting to new singing styles, singers used to reinvent themselves.”

He said the rise of independent music has changed how singers present themselves, with artists increasingly appearing in front of the camera and building their own public identities.

“This was always there in the West. Take Madonna, for example. She is the queen of reinvention,” Sami said. “Some of them were good, some of them were not, but she always kept reinventing herself.”

Sami added that musicians need to evolve with changing tastes and trends.

“It’s always important to keep changing and evolving. You and your music should both change a bit according to the times,” he said.

Sami began his music career in the early 1990s and later gained widespread recognition with the album “Kabhi To Nazar Milao.” He has worked across pop, Indian classical and film music and was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 2020.
