House Help Arrested in Jewelry Theft Case at Raveena Tandon’s Mother’s Home

MUMBAI — Mumbai police have arrested a 48-year-old house help in connection with the theft of gold jewelry worth about 25 lakh rupees from the home of Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon’s mother, officials said.

Police identified the accused as Rashi Chabria, who had been hired to help care for Tandon’s 86-year-old mother.

According to police, Chabria had been in contact with the Tandon family since 2020 and regularly visited the actress’ mother’s home. She cooked food and helped care for Tandon’s mother, gradually gaining the family’s trust over time.

Investigators said the theft took place at the family’s home, where the jewelry was allegedly kept in a locker. The accused also allegedly stole two mobile phones.

The matter came to light after the family noticed that jewelry and watches were missing. Police said the family questioned the house help, who initially denied involvement. When questioned again, she returned the expensive watches and claimed she had given the jewelry to a person named Jagdish and would return it soon.

According to the case registered at Juhu police station, the complainant’s mother’s old jewelry had been kept in a safe inside a closet while renovation work was underway at the house. The jewelry was found missing Oct. 2.

Police said Chabria later admitted to stealing the items but did not return the complainant’s gold, after which the case was registered.

Chabria was arrested, and police recovered 15 grams of gold from her. Further investigation is underway. (Source: IANS)
