Anup Jalota Says Every Aspiring Singer Looks Up to Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar

Bhajan maestro calls Asha Bhosle a “school of music,” praising her unmatched versatility across genres and saying her legacy will continue to inspire generations of singers.

Mumbai–Singer and bhajan maestro Anup Jalota paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Asha Bhosle, describing her as one of the foundational pillars of playback singing and an enduring source of inspiration for aspiring vocalists.

Speaking about her influence, Jalota said that for generations of young singers, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar have remained the ultimate benchmarks. “Any girl who dreams of becoming a singer aspires to sing like Asha ji or Lata ji—there’s hardly a third thought,” he remarked.

Highlighting her extraordinary range, Jalota praised Bhosle’s ability to effortlessly traverse musical styles. From bhajans and ghazals to lively film songs and intricate classical pieces, he noted that she left no genre untouched. “Her versatility was astonishing—every form she touched became memorable,” he said, adding that her nuanced and expressive singing set her apart.

Remembering her legacy, Jalota said her music would continue to resonate with audiences forever. “We will never forget you. Whether physically present or not, you will always remain with us through your voice. Asha ji, you are immortal,” he added.

Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12 at the age of 92 after suffering multi-organ failure. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier following severe exhaustion and a chest infection, as shared by her granddaughter.

With a career spanning over eight decades, Bhosle remained one of the most prolific and versatile voices in Indian music, leaving behind a timeless legacy that continues to inspire generations. (Source: IANS)
