KOLKATA– Residents of a village in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district were left horrified Friday morning after a man allegedly murdered his wife, dismembered her body, and walked around with her heart and other body parts in a bag before fleeing.
Police identified the suspect as Ramesh Roy, a resident of Maynaguri. Investigators say Roy killed his wife, 45-year-old Deepali Roy, inside their home before cutting up her body with a sharp weapon. Witnesses told police that Roy carried a bag containing her remains and, in a chilling act, showed the heart to several people in the neighborhood.
“He even went to a nearby house and displayed the body parts to terrified residents,” said Subal Chandra Ghosh, Inspector in Charge of the Maynaguri police station. “Neighbors who went to his home later found the bed soaked in blood. We have recovered the body parts and sent them for post-mortem examination. The accused is on the run, and our investigation is underway.”
The gruesome killing has stunned the local community. Neelima Roy, head of the Maynaguri Gram Panchayat, said residents immediately informed her after witnessing the incident. “People were shocked to see this ghastly crime happening in our midst. I alerted the police as soon as I heard,” she said.
Authorities recovered the remaining body parts from the couple’s home and sent them to Jalpaiguri Government Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Police confirmed the couple had two children — a son and a married daughter.
Officers have launched a search for Roy, who fled the scene shortly after the killing. (Source: IANS)
