KOLKATA– A young model has accused two men of gang rape in south Kolkata’s Kasba area after allegedly being lured with promises of film roles, police said on Tuesday.
The complaint, filed late Monday night at Kasba Police Station, alleges that the woman was raped multiple times in 2023 after the accused befriended her on social media. They reportedly claimed to be film producers with connections in both Tollywood and Bollywood and convinced her they could secure acting opportunities.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rupesh Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered under gang rape charges. “The investigation into the incident has started,” he said. Police are also probing whether the accused had any contact with figures from the entertainment industry.
According to the woman’s statement, the two men took her to parties in the name of building industry contacts before assaulting her at various locations in Kasba. She later discovered that they had no ties to film producers or actors.
Investigators said the woman had tried to reach out to the accused several times afterward but was ignored. A medical examination of the complainant is being arranged, police added.
The case comes months after another alleged gang rape in Kasba, where a law student and two alumni of a local college were arrested in connection with the assault of a woman on campus. (Source: IANS)
