DUBLIN– The Embassy of India in Ireland has issued a security advisory urging Indian nationals to exercise caution following a recent spike in physical assaults targeting Indians across the country.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy advised individuals to avoid isolated areas, particularly during late hours, and to remain vigilant about their personal safety. The embassy also provided emergency contact details for Indian citizens in need of assistance.
“There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently. The Embassy is in touch with the authorities concerned of Ireland in this regard,” the advisory stated. “All Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours.”
The warning follows a violent assault on an Indian man in Tallaght, a southwestern suburb of Dublin, on July 26. The embassy confirmed it is in contact with the victim and his family and is providing necessary support.
“Regarding the recent incident of physical attack on an Indian national that happened in Tallaght, Dublin, the Embassy is in touch with the victim and his family. All requisite assistance is being provided. The Embassy is also in contact with the relevant Irish authorities,” it said in a statement on X.
Ireland’s national police service, An Garda Síochána, has launched an investigation into the incident. According to The Irish Times, the victim—a man in his 40s originally from India—was violently assaulted and partially stripped by a group of young men before being rescued by bystanders. His trousers were forcibly removed during the attack.
Irish media reports suggest the assault is being investigated as a possible hate crime. The attackers had falsely accused the man of inappropriate behavior toward children, and those claims were later amplified online by far-right and anti-immigrant groups.
The victim was treated at Tallaght University Hospital and later discharged. Authorities believe some members of the group may have been involved in other unprovoked assaults on foreign nationals in the area.
Paul Murphy, a local member of Parliament from the People Before Profit party, strongly condemned the attack.
“It’s horrifying to see a vicious attack like this happen in our neighborhood,” he said. “Responsibility lies not just with those who carried out the violence but also with those who have been spreading racist lies. The community is shocked and outraged, and we will stand together against hate, violence, and division.” (Source: IANS)
