Washington– Former U.S. President Joe Biden released a heartfelt statement on Monday, just hours after his office confirmed that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support,” the 82-year-old wrote in a social media post, accompanied by a photo of himself with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden.
According to a statement from his office on Sunday, Biden had recently undergone medical evaluation after experiencing increased urinary symptoms. Doctors discovered a new prostate nodule during the examination.
“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
The former President and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his medical team.
Biden, who was the oldest person to serve as U.S. President, left office earlier this year following the 2024 presidential election, in which Donald Trump returned to the White House after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.
Global leaders and political figures have responded with messages of support.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his well wishes on Monday, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “Deeply concerned to hear about Joe Biden’s health. Extend our best wishes to him for a quick and full recovery. Our thoughts are with Dr. Jill Biden and the family.”
U.S. President Donald Trump also addressed the news via his Truth Social platform: “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.” (Source: IANS)
