Yuvraj Singh Calls for Clarity on Rohit, Kohli Roles Ahead of 2027 World Cup

NEW DELHI — Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has urged greater clarity on the future roles of senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as India begins planning for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rohit and Kohli have stepped away from Test and T20I formats but remain central to India’s 50-over setup. Their long-term involvement, however, remains uncertain as the team navigates a transition phase.

“I don’t know what is going on in their minds. They look committed to playing the World Cup, but I think that decision lies with them and the selectors, who will have to decide the future,” Yuvraj said in an interview with Sports Tak.

He stressed the need for open communication between team management and senior players.

“My point is that they are such great players, there has to be clarity. You should be able to sit in a room and discuss things openly. It is difficult, especially at that stage of your career,” he said.

Yuvraj added that while such conversations may be uncomfortable, they are important for long-term planning.

“You may not like hearing that the team is looking ahead, but a year later, you will appreciate that at least someone told you the truth to your face. That does not really happen in Indian cricket,” he said.

Kohli has been in strong form in recent months, climbing back into the top two of the ICC ODI rankings after a prolific run that included scoring 302 runs in a series against South Africa. Rohit also continues to play a key role as India balances experienced players with emerging talent ahead of the next World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Separately, Yuvraj addressed controversial remarks made by his father, Yograj Singh, offering an apology to former India captains Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

“I would like to apologise to Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. I told Dad, it’s not okay,” Yuvraj said.

He added that he has maintained a professional relationship with Dhoni and has sought the former captain’s perspective to better understand past issues. (Source: IANS)
