New Delhi– Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday described the recently concluded Operation Sindoor outreach as a resounding success, emphasizing that the mission transcended party lines and was focused entirely on representing India on the global stage.

“I went for the country and spoke for the country,” Tharoor told Malayalam media during a press interaction in the capital, responding to questions about his party’s stance on the initiative.

Tharoor led a nine-member Indian delegation that included MPs from multiple political parties and visited five countries—namely the United States, Brazil, Panama, Guyana, and Colombia. The team also featured Sarfaraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya, and former Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

“The primary goal of our visit was to engage with think tanks, heads of state, vice presidents, parliamentarians, and prominent former political leaders,” Tharoor explained. “We briefed them on recent developments and presented India’s position on key issues.”

Speaking about the U.S. leg of the trip, Tharoor said there was no discussion related to trade or about foreign intervention, in an apparent reference to past remarks by former President Donald Trump. “We clarified India’s stance, and all parties understood the context—Pakistan had presented a weak case, especially as the incident involved terrorists targeting tourists,” he said.

Tharoor noted that he would be submitting a comprehensive report of the tour to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “It will be my personal report,” he added.

Describing the trip as “very hectic,” Tharoor said the delegation often traveled overnight with minimal rest, balancing a packed schedule across multiple countries.

Interestingly, Prime Minister Modi personally selected Tharoor to lead the delegation, even though his name was initially omitted from the Congress party’s list. The decision is seen as a significant gesture, given Tharoor’s strained relationship with the Congress high command since he contested against Mallikarjun Kharge for the party presidency—an act that drew disapproval from much of the leadership but also earned him strong support in Kerala.

Tharoor, a four-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram since 2009, remains one of the Congress party’s most prominent and internationally recognized figures. (Source: IANS)
