Mumbai— Before she became a household name on Indian television and made her mark in Bollywood, actress Radhikka Madan had her heart set on an entirely different stage: dance.
In a candid conversation with filmmaker Farah Khan, who visited Radhikka’s home for her popular vlog series, the Angrezi Medium actress revealed her first love was dancing — and not just any form, but one rarely seen in India.
“I am trained in Jazz, ballet, and Modern dance,” Radhikka shared. “I wanted to introduce tap dancing in India. The way you feel on stage — you don’t see anybody else. It’s just you and the rhythm.”
But fate had other plans.
Radhikka recalled the unexpected and dramatic way she entered the world of acting. While still in Delhi, she received a direct message from a casting director inviting her for an audition.
“The venue looked shady,” she admitted. “And at that time, I used to watch a lot of Crime Patrol. So I asked two of my friends to come with me — and we took hockey sticks!”
“I told them, ‘I’ll go in first, you follow right after — and if anything goes wrong, we’ll be in the newspaper the next day!’” she laughed.
But instead of danger, what Radhikka found was her big break. The audition turned out to be for the television serial “Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi”, where she was cast in the lead role opposite Shakti Arora. The Colors TV show ran from 2014 to 2016 and quickly became one of the highest-rated serials of its time.
Despite having no formal acting training, Radhikka said she discovered a deep comfort in front of the camera — a feeling not unlike being on stage as a dancer.
“It felt safe. Just like dancing, acting gave me a space to express freely. I learned everything on the job.”
After making her mark on television, Radhikka successfully transitioned to films with roles in “Shiddat”, “Pataakha”, and “Angrezi Medium”, earning acclaim for her performances and versatility.
Up next, she’ll star opposite Anil Kapoor in Suresh Triveni’s much-anticipated project, Subedaar. (Source: IANS)
