CHENNAI, Aug. 18 — The second single from director Sherief’s upcoming film Gandhi Kannadi was released Monday, giving fans a taste of the romantic side of the much-anticipated drama that marks comedian KPY Bala’s debut as a lead actor.
The track, titled Thimurukaari, explores two parallel love stories — one featuring a young couple and the other an elderly pair — and has been composed by the celebrated duo Vivek-Mervin. Music director Sean Roldan provides the soulful vocals, while the film’s director Sherief himself penned the lyrics.
Sharing the release on social media, Sherief wrote: “#Thimurukaari The journey continues… Here’s our second single for you all! Gandhi Kannadi See you in theatres on September 5 @sakthifilmfactory release #DebutDream.”
Backed by Jayi Kiran’s Adhimulam Creations, the film is set for a September 5 theatrical release.
KPY Bala, best known for his sharp wit and comic timing on Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru, takes on an emotionally demanding role in the movie, which is said to be based on a true story. The project is described as a feel-good, emotionally rich drama, with Sherief not only directing but also writing the story and screenplay.
“Gandhi Kannadi is not just our first film — it’s a story that moved me deeply,” producer Jayi Kiran said earlier. “With Bala stepping into a powerful role and a solid team backing the vision, I believe we’ve created something truly special.”
Director Sherief, who previously helmed the thriller Ranam Aram Thavarel, said the new film is “very personal” to him. “After the emotional weight of Ranam Aram Thavarel, I wanted to shift to something more grounded and uplifting. Bala’s debut as a hero, supported by Balaji Sakthivel sir, Archana ma’am, and Namitha in key roles, really strengthens the film. I’m confident that we’ve created a film that’s honest and full of heart.”
With its moving premise, acclaimed supporting cast, and heartfelt music, Gandhi Kannadi is shaping up as one of the most anticipated Tamil releases this fall. (Source: IANS)
