Theegala Finishes Tied 49th as Brennan Wins Wyndham Championship

Greensboro — Sahith Theegala struggled in the final round of the Wyndham Championship, shooting a 4-over 74 to finish tied for 49th, while Michael Brennan surged to victory in the PGA Tour’s final regular-season event.

Theegala had opened the tournament with an impressive 8-under 62, leaving him one shot off the lead, but was unable to sustain that pace through the weekend. He finished with rounds of 62, 69, 69 and 74 for a 6-under total of 274.

Despite the disappointing finish, the 28-year-old Indian-American secured a place in the FedExCup Playoffs, which begin next week. Theegala, who returned to the tour this season after an injury-plagued 2025 campaign, ended the regular season 44th in the standings.

Fellow Indian-origin golfer Aaron Rai also advanced to the postseason. Rai finished tied for 29th at 8-under after rounds of 67, 69, 69 and 67. He closed the regular season 35th in the standings.

Brennan, meanwhile, produced a strong final-round charge to capture the title and earn his own place in the playoffs.

The 24-year-old entered the tournament ranked 105th in the standings and had recorded only one top-10 finish this season. Starting Sunday one shot behind Beau Hossler, Brennan took control with five consecutive birdies beginning at the fourth hole.

All five birdie putts came from inside eight feet, and the run turned his one-shot deficit into a three-shot advantage by the turn after Hossler bogeyed the ninth.

Brennan finished with a 6-under 64 to win the tournament and jump to 47th in the standings, comfortably securing a postseason berth.

His victory also erased the disappointment of recent opportunities at the 3M Open and Rocket Classic, where he had been in contention before fading during the final round.

The top 70 players in the standings following the Wyndham Championship qualified for the playoffs, with Jackson Koivun narrowly securing the final position.

Koivun, who left Auburn in June and won the 3M Open in only his third PGA Tour start, shot a final-round 71 to finish the regular season in 70th place, holding off challenges from Matt Wallace and Davis Thompson.

Ben James, the No. 1 player in the PGA TOUR University rankings who has already secured his 2027 tour card, rebounded from a difficult Saturday with a 61 in the final round to finish third.

Brennan was the only player to move from outside the top 70 into a playoff position during the tournament. He replaced Steven Fisk, who entered the week ranked 69th but missed the cut and fell to 71st.

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka also missed the postseason. Koepka needed to finish fourth or better to qualify but struggled with his putting and ended the tournament tied for 67th. He completed the regular season with one top-10 finish. (Source: IANS)
