Theegala Finishes Strong as Young Wins Cadillac Championship at Doral

DORAL, Fla. — Sahith Theegala closed the Cadillac Championship with his best round of the week, surging up the leaderboard Sunday after an uneven tournament at Doral.

Theegala shot a bogey-free 8-under 64 in the final round, matching his best score of the season. He had opened with a 69 before struggling through the middle rounds with scores of 76 and 74, which left him well back in the standings.

His closing charge lifted him 33 places into a tie for 30th and provided a boost as he continues trying to climb back toward the top tier of the world rankings.

Starting on the back nine, Theegala gained early momentum with birdies on the 12th and 16th holes. He then caught fire on the front nine, his second nine of the day, adding six more birdies. He birdied the first, second and fifth holes before closing with three consecutive birdies.

Sudarshan Yellamaraju also finished tied for 30th after a clean 68 that included four birdies and no bogeys.

Akshay Bhatia had a more difficult final round. He recorded an eagle on the par-4 16th and added four birdies, but two double bogeys and three additional bogeys left him with a 1-over 73. He dropped into a tie for 23rd after starting the day inside the top 10.

Cameron Young controlled the tournament from start to finish, closing with a 4-under 68 to finish at 19 under. He won by six shots despite calling a one-stroke penalty on himself early in the final round.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished second, marking his third consecutive runner-up result. Ben Griffin took third, while Si Woo Kim, Sepp Straka and Adam Scott tied for fourth.

Early morning rain softened the Blue Monster course and delayed the start of play. Preferred lies were used, helping create slightly easier scoring conditions.

Scott’s strong weekend may have helped him secure a spot in the upcoming U.S. Open, which could mark his 100th consecutive appearance in a major championship. (Source: IANS)
