CAMBRIDGE, MA– Tamr Inc. announced that it has hired Mahesh Pai, former Senior Vice President of Technology with Nielsen Corporation, as its new Head of Engineering.

In his new role, Pai will lead the growing engineering team behind Tamr’s enterprise data unification software system, reporting directly to the company’s co-founder and CEO, Andy Palmer.

“Mahesh’s deep experience leading the development of big data enterprise software solutions is incredibly valuable in his new role at Tamr,” said Palmer. “He will be building on a strong foundation of Tamr talent and technology. Under Mahesh’s leadership, our pace of delivery and innovation will accelerate, and I’m delighted to welcome him to the company.”

Pai is well-versed in the challenges of building enterprise-scale, data-centric products that delight customers and fuel rapid growth in emerging technology markets. Most recently at Nielsen, he served as Senior VP of Technology where he led the development and launch of the Nielsen Connected System — a retail big data Software-as-a-Service and Data-as-a-Service offering. Pai joined Nielsen via the 2014 acquisition of Affinnova, where he was the VP of Engineering. During his four years at Affinnova, he led the start-up’s transition from a services-enabled solution to a successful product-based SaaS company. Earlier in his career, Pai held engineering leadership roles at Intralinks and Visual I/O.

“I have seen firsthand how the challenges of data variety make it virtually impossible for large enterprises to unlock the insights they need to compete but are hidden in their siloed, dirty, diverse data stores, said Pai. “The business-as-usual approach of trying to construct a system of rules to unify this data is a fool’s errand. Tamr’s differentiated approach to tackling this challenge with a machine learning-powered system that makes it easy to build a new kind of model-based data pipelines is powerful and disruptive. The company’s strong results prove that the market demand is high, and I look forward to helping scale Tamr to new heights.”
